Thoroughbred Assessment Centre

Would you like a fresh set of eyes to evaluate your horse, both clinically and from a retraining perspective?

BTRC would like to offer both owners of active racehorses considering the retirement options for their horse, and those with horses that are retired and in equestrian but are perhaps struggling with rideability or training issues; the opportunity of a full assessment just as we undertake on all of our own horses at admission.

The evaluation will be completed by BTRC’s team of expert retrainers along with Consultant Vet, Gordon Sidlow BVMS MRCVS (West Ridge Equine) who is one of the most experienced vets in the world in assessing Thoroughbreds for suitability and sustainability in the equestrian sector, and the objective of the session is to provide a clearer understanding of the potential opportunities and challenges for your retired racehorse. Furthermore, it will permit the owner an opportunity to discuss any concerns they may have about their horse with a knowledgeable team that understand and appreciate the environmental, clinical and retraining difficulties that some racehorses may face in the transition from racing to equestrian.

The assessment will be approximately 1 hour and the cost £275 +VAT and this will include:

  • a visual assessment both on a hard surface and soft, and under saddle (if appropriate), up to 8 x-ray views (such as back, hocks or front feet radiographs) additional views will be charged at £8 plus VAT.

If you are interested in this service, please contact the office to book a time slot on the available date (limited places).

Please note:

Owners will be responsible for arranging transport to and from the BTRC on the day of assessment.

If owners are unable to transport on the day, then BTRC are able to offer stabling at the Centre for £20 per night. However, if stabling is required the horse must produce a valid negative Elisa strangles result 24 hours prior to arrival.

If you are interested in booking a session or would like to find out more information please contact the office on 01524 812649 or email enquiries@thetrc.co.uk.

(Other breeds of horses will also be accepted subject to availability)
