Overview
If you require accommodation during your placement, you will stay in the BTRC farmhouse. This is self-catering accommodation allowing you to live onsite during your placement. The house comprises of 4 bedrooms (space for 7 over night guests), two bathrooms, downstairs toilet, communal kitchen and living room and a large garden. The house will often be shared with a BTRC staff member and other students, however on occasion you may be staying on your own. Students are unsupervised outside working hours (8am – 5pm).
Location & Local Area
The house is located at BTRC in the Lancashire countryside, 15 minutes drive from the City of Lancaster. The nearest village, Halton, is just a 5 minute drive away and here you will find a convenience store, pharmacy, fish and chip shop, butchers and a local pub. The nearest supermarket is a 20 minute drive, but you can get a supermarket food delivery to the Centre. Should you not have access to a car during your stay, you will be offered weekly lifts to/from the local supermarket/shops. The Centre is just 30 minutes from the Lake District National Park and approx. 1 hour from Manchester and Liverpool.
Access to the Centre
Due to the rural location of the Centre, there is no direct access via public transport. There are two nearby train stations (Lancaster and Carnforth), both are a 20 minute taxi ride away. What is Provided & What to Bring
As the accommodation is self-catering you will need to bring your own food, bed covers and towels. The kitchen is fully equipped with; fridge freezer, microwave, hob, oven, toaster, kettle, washing machine, tumble dryer, pots, pans and cutlery etc. We also have a small selection of oils/spices/salt and pepper etc. to assist with your cooking. BTRC also provide tea/coffee and sugar.
Cost of Accommodation
Due to the increasing costs of electricity/gas and oil, from 1st April 2022 a payment of £10 per week is required when booking your placement to contribute towards the running costs. If you are joining us for more than 4 weeks funding is available to cover these costs, therefore there will be no charge.
