As part of our expansion into the equine education sector, we are thrilled to now offer The British Horse Society’s Changing Lives Through Horses (CLTH) programme.
Using horses as the inspiration for change, the programme provides an alternative and complementary learning environment to mainstream education. It aims to improve the lives of young people who may need additional support, are disengaged, or disadvantaged, or at risk of becoming excluded from education.
To deliver this programme, BTRC is proud to have secured a Riding School Licence from Lancaster City Council and have been quality assured as an Approved Provider for Alternative Provision for Lancashire County Council.
Leading the CLTH programme is local teacher Seona Williams, who brings extensive experience in both the equestrian field and teaching young people from diverse backgrounds. Seona’s expertise ensures that the programme is delivered to the highest standard; providing students with meaningful and impactful learning experiences.
To further support the programme, BTRC has welcomed Fell pony Floyd on loan from a local family. With his calm and steady temperament, Floyd is the perfect partner for introducing first-time riders to the joys of horseback riding.
One of our first students, Isla, recently completed her BHS Achieve Awards through the programme. While we are incredibly proud of this achievement, the true success lies in the positive changes we’ve seen in Isla’s confidence and outlook – proof of the transformative power of the CLTH programme. Isla’s Mum said” The Changing Lives programme at the BTRC has had a hugely positive impact on Isla so far. Her confidence has grown, and she feels safe and supported by the coach. She is actually looking forward to something, which hasn’t been the case for a few years now. She now feels she has options and is more positive about what she could do next. This is such a huge step forward, and we are very happy with how things are going for her in this programme.”
