Working Together with the JRA

In August 2019 we were delighted to welcome Masataka Kudo from the Japan Racing Association (JRA). Masakata is responsible for the development of the retraining of retired racehorse programme in Japan. He joined BTRC for 3 weeks to learn about the retraining process and to share best practice and procedures.

During his time with BTRC, Masataka discovered the different aspects of the BTRC operation including Rehabilitation, Retraining and the Rehoming procedures. He also spent a day with BTRC’s Consultant Vet Gordon Sidlow, helping to complete a monthly assessment of all horses at the Centre. Assessing their progress and suitability for future equestrian use.

BTRC also arranged a visit to Kingsley park, the home of trainer Mark Johnston, for Masataka to gain an insight into the world class racehorse training that takes place here in the UK.

We look forward to building our relationship with the JRA and continue to share best practices within the retraining industry, whether that be in the UK or internationally.
