MORE THAN 100 riders took part in a unique opportunity to ride around the Chatsworth Estate, thanks to the BTRC Ride for Retraining campaign. Basking in sunshine, riders enjoyed a leisurely hack along rolling countryside, taking in the stunning scenery of the Chatsworth Estate whilst raising money for the charity.

“It was amazing to be able to hold a ‘Ride for Retraining’ in such a fantastic surroundings as Chatsworth and our thanks go to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire for welcoming us so warmly to their home. Everyone taking part seemed to have a wonderful day and helped contribute to our £100,000 target to double the size of our yard to 80 boxes,” said BTRC Chairman John Sexton.
Alice Fry from Ashbourne was riding her six-year-old cob Ezzie and said: “It was wonderful to ride around the Chatsworth Estate, a fantastic opportunity and very enjoyable.”
Having seen the ride in a local equestrian magazine Linda Spetch from Scunthorpe and Trish Dixon from Goxhill, also in North Lincolnshire couldn’t praise the day highly enough. Riding a former racehorse, Pearl Farm, Linda said: “Wow, what stunning scenery and wonderful riding, the British Thoroughbred Retraining Centre has put on a great day and we would be the first to sign up for another ride.”
Added Tina Clifford from Ripley: “When the chance to ride around Chatsworth came up we couldn’t say no, it has been brilliant and we have met some wonderful people as well.”
Said BTRC Chief Executive, Gillian Carlisle: “It was a fantastic day – all the riders were in great spirits and I cannot thank the staff of Chatsworth enough for their help on the day and of course the wonderful stewards who volunteered and gave up their precious time to help our Charity. Hopefully riders will continue to support the campaign by registering and completing their own Ride for Retraining.”
‘Ride for Retraining’ is a nationwide initiative to mark the 25th Anniversary of The British Thoroughbred Retraining Centre. To celebrate the BTRC’s Silver Jubilee, the Centre is hoping to raise £100,000 to increase the size of the yard from 40 boxes to 80 and so double the number of horses that can be helped every year.
