The British Thoroughbred Retraining Centre Open Day a Huge Success

callageThe British Thoroughbred Retraining Centre Open Day was a huge success with a fantastic turnout, including founder Carrie Humble MBE, as part of the 25th Anniversary celebrations.

The Open Day was held at the centre, Whinney Hill, Lancashire and despite some rather wet weather, rain failed to stop play with visitors in good spirits after meeting all the BTRC horses and learning more about what the charity does.

With so much going on there was something for everyone to enjoy. Visitors were treated to an action packed schedule of events including an amazing Lionheart Entertainments jousting tournament, the Vale of Lune hounds, the Oxenholme Pony Club Pony Games Challenge and Horus Birds of Prey with their beautiful feathered friends.

Charlotte Bowery and her BTRC loaned horse Rocky displayed their talent and skills in an impressive Dressage to Music display.

Visitors could also enjoy some retail therapy with Jeni’s Cupcakes, Jigsaw the mechanical horse from Mawdesley Equine and People Trust, and official partners Bedmax and TopSpec all supporting the event.

Said BTRC Chief Executive, Gillian Carlisle: “We were delighted that our 2016 Open Day was such a success and a fantastic family day out.  It was a great opportunity for people to see exactly what the charity does and to meet all the horses. We were pleased to welcome the founder of the BTRC Carrie Humble MBE and during the day unveil ‘The Carrie Humble Rehabilitation Unit’.

“To celebrate our 25th Anniversary we are running the Ride for Retraining campaign which is just one way for everyone to get involved in our great fundraising appeal. All you have to do is sign up for the Ride for Retraining campaign on the website, to receive a free Ride for Retraining hi-viz tabard and ride as many miles as you can, on your own, with a friend or as part of a planned ride such as a pleasure ride or endurance activity. The money raised at the Open Day and through Ride for Retraining will all go towards building our exciting new stable block.”
